Percentile Calculator

Paste your data and choose a percentile. To see where one value stands, enter it in the last box and you'll get its percentile rank.

Optional.

Your result will appear here.

How it's calculated

The data is sorted and the position of the k-th percentile is k × (n − 1), counting from zero. When that lands between two values, the result is interpolated between them. This is the inclusive method Excel uses in PERCENTILE.INC.

Percentile rank works the other way: it's the share of values below the one you entered, using the same scale.

Position = k × (n − 1)

How to do it in Excel

=PERCENTILE.INC(A2:A12, 0.9)
The 90th percentile.
=PERCENTRANK.INC(A2:A12, 78)
Percentile rank of 78.
=QUARTILE.INC(A2:A12, 1)
First quartile (25th percentile).
