Future Value Calculator

Future value answers the question: if I invest this now, and maybe add a fixed amount each period, what will it be worth at the end? The rate and the number of periods must use the same unit, so use a monthly rate with a number of months.

Your result will appear here.

How it's calculated

The lump sum grows by (1 + r)^n. Each payment grows for the periods left after it's made, and the sum of all of them is the annuity part of the formula. Payments at the start of each period get one extra period of growth.

FV = PV × (1 + r)^n + PMT × ((1 + r)^n − 1) ÷ r

How to do it in Excel

=FV(0.5%, 60, -100, -10000)
Same as the default example. Use 1 as a fifth argument for payments at the start of each period.
