How it's calculated

A percentage is a number out of 100, so 15% is 0.15. To find 15% of 240, multiply: 0.15 × 240 = 36. To find what percent 36 is of 240, divide and multiply by 100. To find the whole from a part, divide the part by the percentage as a decimal.

Part = % × Whole % = Part ÷ Whole Whole = Part ÷ %

How to do it in Excel

In Excel, a cell formatted as a percentage already holds the decimal, so 15% is stored as 0.15.

=A1/B1
