Percentage Change Calculator

Enter where you started and where you ended up. The result says whether it's an increase or a decrease and by how much.

Your result will appear here.

How it's calculated

Subtract the old value from the new one and divide by the old value. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase, but going from 100 back to 80 is a 20% decrease, because the starting point changed.

% change = (New − Old) ÷ |Old| × 100

How to do it in Excel

=(B1-A1)/A1
Old value in A1, new value in B1. Format as a percentage.
=IFERROR((B1-A1)/A1, "")
Leaves the cell blank when the old value is zero.
